Easy Samosa Recipe: Ingredients and Method for Making Samosa at Home 

For the Dough

  • To make the dough for samosas, use 2 cups of all-purpose flour in a bowl. 
  • Mix 3/4 teaspoon of ajwain (carom seeds) and 3/4 teaspoon salt. 
  • Add 1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) of oil or ghee and mix thoroughly until the flour is crumbly.
  • Add 6 tablespoons of water gradually, adding more if necessary, and knead into a stiff dough. 
  • Cover and rest for around 30 minutes before use.

For the Filling

  • Prepare Potatoes: Boil 4 medium potatoes and mash them. Set aside.
  • Toast Spices: Heat a pan and put 3/4 teaspoon cumin and mustard seeds in it. Let them splutter.
  • Saute Aromatics: Add 1 tablespoon of minced ginger and 1 to 2 chopped green chillies.
  • Add Spices: Mix 3/4 teaspoon red chilli powder, 3/4 teaspoon of garam masala, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon amchur (dry mango) powder, 1/2 teaspoon of cumin powder, and 1/2 teaspoon fennel powder (optional).
  • Prepare Vegetables: Add 1/4 cup green peas and stir well for a couple of minutes.
  • Combine & Finish: Mix the mashed potatoes and 1/4 cup of chopped coriander leaves, and the samosa filling is ready.

Method for Making Perfect Samosa

Cut the dough into five portions, roll it into ovals, and divide it into two halves. Shape into cones, wet edges with water, & fill with spiced potato stuffing. Seal the top. Fry in oil on low heat until crispy, golden brown, and flaky. Make sure that the oil is not too hot when you add the samosa.

Serving Suggestions for Home-made Samosa

Samosas taste the best with Mint Chutney, Tamarind Chutney, or even with Samosa Chaat, which is mixed with chickpea curry, chutneys, and crispy sev. The good news is that you no longer need to look out for street stalls. With basic ingredients and some patience, you can enjoy these yummy treats at home.
